Gor Mahia Fans Demand Reinforcements ¶
Following the team's mass exodus of star players, including Jacques Tuyisenge and Francis Kahata, Gor Mahia fans are now calling for the club to sign quality players.
On July 18, 2019, Gor Mahia crashed out of the CECAFA Kagame Cup after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Zambia's Green Eagles in the competition's quarter-final stage.
According to reports, Gor Mahia skipper Haron Shakava will not be renewing his contract and is expected to complete a move to newly promoted KPL side Wazito FC.
Concerned Gor Mahia fans are hoping club executives have plans to replace the number of experienced players released in the transfer window.
Head coach Hasan Oktay has bemoaned the lack of attacking depth in his squad and is especially concerned with having lost the two players.
"We lost two good players Jacques Tuyisenge and Kahata plus four national team players for us is about fitness. Yes, we should play semifinals with the quality we have but unfortunately, it did not happen," Oktay said, according to Futaa.
"We need to sign one or two quality players. We need players or else we will struggle we need two strikers and one wide player," he added.
On the pitch, Nicholas Kipikirui nodded home for K'Ogalo inside two minutes of the match, but Tapson Kaseba restored parity for the Zambians five minutes later.
Shadrack Mulungwe went on to double Eagles' lead in the 68th minute, firing into the net from inside the box after outwitting Geoffrey Ochieng and Sempala to create acres of space.
