Microsoft's African Development Centre (ADC) has welcomed a new leader, with Catherine Muraga taking over as Managing Director on June 1, 2022. The appointment comes after the exit of Jack Ngare from the ADC.
Muraga, a seasoned IT professional with over 15 years of experience, has worked in various industries, including manufacturing, aviation, and banking. She has also held leadership positions at Stanbic Bank Kenya and South Sudan, and was previously the Director of IT and Operations at Sidian Bank.
With a strong educational background, Muraga is an alumnus of Columbia Business School Digital Strategies for Business, Oxford University Fintech Programme, and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science from Africa Nazarene University.
On her appointment, Muraga expressed her excitement, saying: “I am excited to be joining the ADC at this particular time and look forward to continuing the tremendous work that has already begun.”
The ADC, which was established in Nairobi in 2019, has grown to over 450 full-time employees working in various areas, including software engineering, machine learning, data science, market research, infrastructure, and more.
The centre relocated to its new ultra-modern facility at Dunhill Towers along Waiyaki Way in March 2022, which will house the engineering, design, research, and innovation teams, as well as the Microsoft Garage and the Microsoft Africa Research Institute (MARI).
