On June 1, 2022, Kenya marked its 59th Madaraka Day celebrations, a reminder of the country's journey towards self-governance.
Deputy President William Ruto, in a Twitter post, emphasized the importance of unity and prosperity, urging Kenyans to take responsibility for the nation's future.
“Today we celebrate 59 years of Madaraka but we must not forget that we are responsible for the next years ahead, we are the makers of this nation, let us choose a path of progress, unity and prosperity,” he said.
During the celebrations, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Sierra Leone's President Julius Maada Bio addressed the function, while Deputy President Ruto was noticeably absent.
However, Ruto later attended the Hustlers Cup finals at Thirime Primary School Grounds in Kikuyu Constituency, Kiambu County, accompanied by allies Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang'ula.
Speaking after the tournament, Ruto emphasized the importance of the August 9 General Election, stating that it was about the economy and how to fix it.
