Diadie Samassekou, a 26-year-old Malian midfielder, has made a name for himself in the football world. He currently plays for TSG Hoffenheim in the German top-flight league, a position he secured in 2019 after signing a five-year deal worth 14 million Euros (Sh1.7 billion).

Samassekou's journey to the top began at the Jean-Marc Guillou (JMG) Academy in Bamako, where he honed his football skills alongside his countryman Amadou Haidara, currently playing for RB Leipzig. He later moved to Austria at the age of 19 and played for Austrian Second Division side FC Liefering in the 2015/2016 season.

Samassekou's experience in the game is vast, having played for the Malian U-20 team that finished third in the U20 World Cup, the U-23 team, and the Malian senior team in the 2019 and 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. He has also played 24 UEFA Europa League matches over two seasons, helping his team reach the semifinals in the 2017/2018 season and the last 16 in the following season.

Samassekou's advice to African footballers is to focus on their character, work ethic, and ambitions. 'You need to be a good player first. If you are not good, nobody will take you, especially clubs outside your country,' he said during a Zoom interview from Hoffenheim. 'Being a good player with poor character will not get you anywhere.'

Samassekou's sights are set on playing in the Uefa Champions League, a goal he credits to his role model, Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo. He also believes that African teams have the potential to succeed at the highest level, citing Senegal, Cameroon, and Ghana as examples of strong teams.

Samassekou's journey to the top is a testament to his hard work and dedication. He has come a long way from his days at the JMG Academy, and his experience in the game has prepared him for the challenges that lie ahead.
