A devastating house fire in Manyani Estate, Nakuru County, claimed the lives of a mother and her two children on an unknown date.

According to Nakuru East Deputy Sub-County Police Commander Wilson Nduati, the fire was reported at around 8am, and by the time it was extinguished, three people had died.

‘At around 8am we received reports that a house was on fire within Manyani slums. After the fire was put out, we established that three people had died in the house,’ said Nduati.

The deceased were identified as a middle-aged woman and her two daughters, Shadiya Wangare, 17, and Limsy Wanjiru, 11. The family's only son, Kenan Muchemi, 19, survived the tragedy as he had moved out of the house and was living with his cousins in a neighbouring estate.

‘Those who were in the house were my mother Judy Nyambura and my two sisters Shadiya Wangare, 17, and Limsy Wanjiru, 11,’ said Muchemi.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
