On 1st June 2022, President Julius Maada Bio reiterated Sierra Leone's commitment to fostering closer ties with Kenya during the 59th Madaraka Day celebration at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.

Despite their different historical paths, Bio emphasized that the fraternal bonds between the two countries continue to grow stronger.

"In each of our ways, it's been odious maybe not what our forefathers may have imagined. We have faced and mastered our fears and doubts. We have triumphed over adversity and we have worked hard to build just an inclusive peaceful nation on both sides of the great continents," he said.

President Bio noted that Sierra Leone is keen on strengthening ties with Kenya in areas such as international cooperation, peace and security, wildlife, tourism, education, trade, and investment.

He praised President Uhuru Kenyatta for his leadership and development track record in various sectors, including healthcare, education, food security, infrastructure, and trade.

"One log does not make a bridge. This reminds us that for safety and strength and for reassurance we must continue to work together and make our bonds stronger," Bio stated.
