On June 1, 2022, Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok was cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to run for the Makongeni ward seat for the third time.
The clearance ceremony took place at the Jericho Social Hall, where Makadara Returning Officer oversaw the process.
Imwatok expressed his gratitude to IEBC for the smooth exercise and transparency, stating, "I have been cleared today by IEBC and that’s a clear indicator that we are now ready to hit the ground. The process was smooth and we want to thank the commission for that,"
He emphasized the importance of peaceful campaigns, urging his competitors to embrace peace during the electioneering period and encouraging his supporters to remain calm.
Imwatok also called on his supporters to vote for their party leader, Raila Amollo Odinga, in the national elections.
IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati reminded politicians that the official campaign period began on May 29 and urged them to be mindful of their remarks on the campaign trail.
