Kilimanjaro Restaurant Denies Racial Discrimination Claims ¶
A customer, identified as Gladly Nelly, accused Kilimanjaro Restaurant of racial discrimination after she was asked to move from a table.
According to Nelly, she and her companions went to the restaurant on Banda Street and took a table on the balcony. However, a waiter asked them to move to another table because another customer and his four-year-old daughter wanted to sit there.
Nelly claimed that the waiter was rude and yelled at them, and that the manager later asked them to leave, citing that they had stayed at the same spot for four hours the previous day and had caused the restaurant to lose customers.
However, Kilimanjaro Restaurant has denied the allegations, stating that they have CCTV footage that proves Nelly's claims are untrue.
The restaurant said that Nelly and her companions stayed at the eatery for more than six hours, not four, and that they had pushed the reserved tag away when they arrived. When informed that the table was reserved, Nelly allegedly started hurling abuses and threatening staff.
"Noticing the family, she walked out protesting and saying she was racially discriminated and threatened our staff in her own words. 'You will see what I will do'…. She took it to social media and made allegations that we have racially discriminated against her," the restaurant said in a statement.
The restaurant also claimed that after Nelly made the claims, they called her to apologize and even invited her for a meal of her choice. However, Nelly claims that the restaurant has retracted its apology and is threatening to take legal action if she doesn't delete her post.
The controversy has sparked an online debate, with some Kenyans defending the restaurant and others accusing them of racism.
