Uhuru Witnesses Final Madaraka Day Celebrations ¶
President Uhuru Kenyatta presided over the 59th Madaraka Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens on June 1, 2022, marking his last national day in office.
The event featured a spectacular military display by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), with an estimated 30,000 guests in attendance.
Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho had earlier revealed that the military would showcase its hardware to commemorate the last public holiday that Uhuru would oversee.
Speaking on Tuesday, Kibicho said, 'We will heavily showcase military hardware because the KDF needs to say goodbye to the Commander-in-Chief because it will probably be the last day he will conduct a national day.'
During the event, President Uhuru inspected the Guard of Honour, and the KDF showcased its tools of trade, including military paraphernalia.
The celebrations also featured top-notch entertainment from various traditional and modern artists, promoting peace as the country gears towards the August 9 general election.
