KenGen, the Kenya Electricity Generating Company, has been at the forefront of promoting sustainable geothermal energy in Kenya and beyond. In a bid to drive growth and diversify its energy solutions, the company has partnered with Nation Media Group to organize the first-ever Sustainable Energy Conference, dubbed 'Renewable Energy for Sustainable Development', on June 16th and 17th at Olkaria in Nakuru County.

The conference aims to engage various stakeholders, including governments, industry thought leaders, and experts, to ideate and drive critical strategies that will shape the sector in Kenya, the region, and the continent. Some of the key themes the conference will explore include Renewable Energy, Women in Energy, and Energy & Climate Change, among others.

The ticket for the two-day conference is priced at Sh40,000 per delegate, and there will also be a gala dinner and other necessities. The conference is a high-profile, high-impact forum that will bring together industry leaders to drive critical strategies and shape the sector across the country and region.

KenGen has been expanding its presence in Africa, with a strategic plan to harness opportunities geared towards driving growth beyond Kenya. The company has won several contracts in Africa, including a Sh0.7 billion contract to drill three geothermal wells in Djibouti in 2021, a Sh5.8 billion contract to drill 12 geothermal wells in Ethiopia in 2019, and a Sh7.6 billion contract for consultancy services and drilling geothermal wells in Rwanda.

KenGen is also looking at opportunities to drill geothermal wells in Rwanda and has developed partnerships with countries such as Ethiopia and Rwanda in renewable energy development.
