A poll conducted by Mizani Africa revealed that Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka is a strong contender in the upcoming Bungoma gubernatorial election.
With 53.6% of the respondents rating him favorably, Lusaka is closely followed by incumbent Wycliffe Wangamati, who has 43% of the vote.
Ken Lusaka previously served as the Bungoma governor from 2013 to 2017, but lost the seat to Wangamati in the 2017 polls.
Now, Lusaka is seeking to reclaim his position on a Ford-Kenya ticket, having quit Jubilee and severed ties with President Uhuru Kenyatta to align with Deputy President William Ruto.
Wangamati, on the other hand, has switched parties and will be defending his seat on a DAP-Kenya ticket after leaving Ford-Kenya.
The Bungoma gubernatorial election is set to take place in August 2022, and the competition is expected to be fierce, with Moses Wetangula, the leader of Ford-Kenya, also vying for a third term as the area's Senator.
