With less than 70 days to the General Election in August, President Kenyatta's last Madaraka Day address has become a crucial moment for the country. Published on June 1, 2022, a report highlighted several scenarios that could allow President Kenyatta to remain in charge beyond the August 9 polls.

One such scenario is the death of a presidential candidate after being cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), which would require a 60-day postponement of the polls. This could potentially drag the process until October 20, when Mashujaa Day will be taking place.

Politicians from both Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition and Kenya Kwanza Alliance had mixed reactions to President Kenyatta's last national address.
