On May 31, 2022, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) released a report on election preparedness in the country, highlighting areas where violence is likely to break out during the August general election.

According to the report, six counties are at high risk of experiencing electoral violence, with Nairobi topping the list at 79.85 percent, followed by Nakuru at 75.77 percent and Kericho at 74.81 percent.

The commission's study, conducted between January and April, identified the biggest cause of electoral violence as a lack of trust in agencies tasked with delivering credible polls.

NCIC commissioner, Dr. Danvas Makori, emphasized the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration, democracy protection, inclusion, and transparency in preventing violence.

Chair Rev. Dr. Samuel Kobia added, “The Conflict Hotspot Mapping report is another big step in our Roadmap. We are aware that it is not only important to take action against any form of possible violence, as one who is forewarned is one who is forearmed.”
