On May 31, 2022, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested Badru Abdul Aziz Saleh, a suspect wanted by the United States for his alleged involvement in poaching and drug trafficking.

The US had placed a Ksh116 million bounty on Saleh's head, and the arrest was made possible by a tip-off from a member of the public.

Speaking to the press, Charge De Affairs at the US Embassy in Nairobi Eric Kneedler confirmed the arrest and thanked the public for their support.

"We welcome the news that Aziz Saleh has been captured. This would not have been possible without the public's support," Kneedler stated.

However, a second fugitive, Abdi Hussein Ahmed, is still on the run, and the US Embassy is urging anyone with information leading to his arrest to come forward.

The US government had offered a Ksh116 million bounty for information leading to the arrest of each of the two suspects, who were wanted for allegedly being part of a syndicate that smuggled at least 190 kilograms of rhinoceros horns and ten tons of elephant ivory.

The suspects were also accused of violating narcotics laws and were considered fugitives, having been traced to Kenya by American intelligence.
