May 31, 2022, Nairobi, Kenya - Wanini Kireri, a trailblazer in the Kenya Prisons Service, has left behind a legacy of dedication and service.
As the first woman to hold the position of Commandant of Prisons, Wanini Kireri's passing is a significant loss to the Kenya Prisons fraternity.
According to Brigadier John Warioba, the Prisons Commissioner, Wanini Kireri died on Tuesday afternoon at the AAR Hospital on Kiambu road, surrounded by her family.
“On my own behalf and on behalf of the Kenya Prisons Service, I wish to convey my heartfelt condolences to the family and the Kenya Prisons fraternity as I join them at this moment of grief,” Brigadier Warioba said in a statement.
Wanini Kireri had served the Kenya Prisons Service for over 40 years, enlisting as a cadet officer in 1982.
Her illustrious career saw her serve in various capacities, earning her the respect and admiration of her colleagues.
