On May 31, 2022, Chief Justice Martha Koome appointed a three-judge bench to hear eight consolidated petitions seeking to block politicians with integrity issues from contesting the 2022 General Elections.
The judges, led by David Majanja, will also consider the case of Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Mike Sonko Mbuvi, who was impeached by the Senate while serving as Nairobi county boss.
Former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu, who is seeking a comeback, has also been listed as an interested party by one of the petitioners.
Earlier, the High Court had declined to bar the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) from clearing Sonko to contest the Mombasa Gubernatorial seat.
The Court directed that the petition be consolidated with two similar petitions filed in Eldoret.
