YouTube has announced a significant change to its comment section on desktops, aiming to provide a more integrated experience for users.
As of the announcement on May 31, 2022, a single comment will be displayed below the video player, and when expanded or clicked, it will open to the right of the playback window in a static motion, similar to live comments.
Users can then tap on the comment to open a new comment panel, displaying all video comments below the clip, which can be scrolled through.
This redesign aims to allow users to continue watching the video while scanning over the numerous comments, providing more context in a more integrated experience.
The change is expected to bring YouTube's mobile and desktop user interfaces closer together, making it easier to scan over comments while the video is playing.
However, it may take some getting used to, and many users may be unhappy with the change at first due to the need for new app usage practices.
