On Sunday, a bandit attack in Kerio Valley left four people dead, including three school children, sparking widespread concern in the region.
According to reports, the attack occurred at 3 pm in Tot, Marakwet East, leaving several people wounded and forcing them to seek medical attention at Kapsowar Mission Hospital and the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret.
Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, representing Elgeyo-Marakwet, condemned the attack and urged the government to take immediate action to ensure the safety and security of the people.
"I call upon the President and his security managers to take their responsibilities seriously and guarantee safety and security to the people," Murkomen stated.
Despite the government declaring war on bandits, the killings and displacements have persisted, with the insecurity in the region attributed to the presence of illegal firearms.
As part of efforts to address the situation, peace talks and meetings have been held with security teams, with civilians ordered to surrender illegal firearms within the next month.
