On May 31, 2022, a tragic incident shook the community in Mwanza, Tanzania, where a prominent makeup artist lost her life at the hands of her husband.
Swalha Salum, 28, was shot more than five times by her spouse, Said Oswayo, after a disagreement ensued when she arrived home late.
According to acting Mwanza police commander Mairi Makori, the suspect went into hiding after the incident, but was later found to have shot himself before being apprehended.
The couple had been experiencing marital issues in recent months, with sources disclosing that Swalha had moved out of their matrimonial house on several occasions due to her husband's threats.
