As the August election draws near, Narok's spiritual leaders are calling for elected leaders to be held accountable for their promises made during the last election.

On May 31, 2022, Reverend Samuel Naikumi, the National Council of Churches in Kenya (NCCK) Narok Chapter chairman, and Ali Juma, the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) Narok chairman, led a meeting that highlighted the need for public forums to assess the performance of elected leaders and their fitness for re-election.

According to Rev. Naikumi, the spiritual leaders plan to hold community forums where they will present a community manifesto and residents will be given a chance to question the aspirants on their agenda.

"We will hold community forums where we will look at issues affecting our county and which ones to prioritize. We will bring all the groups together so that we can hear from them what they plan for our County if elected," he said.

The meeting also invited representatives from various groups, including the Maasai Council of Elders, Peace Committee, Youth groups, women, persons living with disability, and the boda boda sector, to deliberate on issues affecting the county.

Some of the key areas that the leaders singled out for priority include reviving the agriculture sector, improving health services, and solving land issues.

"When elected they forget the common man because there are no avenues to hold them accountable. We want to develop structures to account for their time in office," Rev. Naikumi added.
