Kenya Airways, the country's national carrier, has taken a significant step towards digitalization by introducing a cashless system at two of its major airports. The move, which comes into effect on June 1, 2022, will see the Moi International Airport in Mombasa and the Kisumu International Airport shift away from cash transactions.
According to the airline, the implementation of a cashless system aims to support the growing preference for digital payments and ease the process of cash collection and reconciliation at the airports. This, in turn, is expected to enhance the overall customer experience.
As of June 1, 2022, payments at the two airports will only be accepted through debit or credit cards, as well as online payment apps. Passengers will have the option to use alternative payment methods, including Credit/Debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, Union Pay) or M-pesa.
