Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka has once again proven himself to be an unreliable and self-centred politician, as he files papers to vie as President in the August general elections.
His actions are reminiscent of his past antics, including his persistent demands to be picked as Deputy President by Raila Odinga, which ultimately ended in him being left empty-handed.
During the 2007 general elections, Kalonzo's tactics paid off when he secured the Vice President's slot under President Mwai Kibaki, despite the disputed and violent elections.
Within the Azimio Alliance, there are over 20 political parties, each with powerful politicians, who were also vying for the Deputy President slot. In ODM, apart from party leader Raila Odinga, there were Governors Joho of Mombasa and Wycliffe Oparanya of Kakamega, among many others, who wanted to deputize Mr Odinga.
Even after being offered a plum and influential ministerial post in Raila's government, Kalonzo still went ballistic, having lengthy private meetings with Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House.
The matter went out of hand, with the Wiper Party's national leadership going public against their leader, stating that they were firmly in the Azimio Alliance and expected Kalonzo to toe the line too.
However, Kalonzo filed papers with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) complete with the required million shillings presidential fees to contest as Wiper's Presidential Candidate 2022.
Experts now say that Kalonzo should swallow his pride and greed and go back to Azimio, otherwise he will become politically irrelevant as a leader.
