On 31st May 2022, the National Annual Prayer Breakfast was held in Parliament, showcasing a display of religiosity. However, the question remains: Do our politicians truly walk the talk in matters of religion and prayer?
While many politicians claim to be devout, their actions often speak louder than their words. They loudly proclaim their faith during electioneering periods, but their actions often contradict the core tenets of religiosity. Our political history is littered with politicians who have been accused of corruption, land grabbing, voter bribery, and political thuggery, yet they masquerade as champions of faith.
It is baffling that voters continue to be blinded by politicians who use religiosity as a means to gain votes. These politicians often engage in ethnic bigotry, corruption, and other forms of malfeasance, yet they claim to be guided by their faith. Why do they feel the need to play the religious card during electioneering seasons?
Voters should be aware that many politicians put on a show of religiosity while intentionally disobeying key Christian or religious precepts. Their faith is often superficial, false, or both. It is time for voters to recognize the difference between genuine religiosity and political posturing.
Elect leaders based on their fruits, not shallow religious proclamations and temporary displays of piety meant to hoodwink the voter.
