On May 30, 2022, police in Murang'a launched an investigation into a case of drink spiking involving a government official.
The official, attached to the Interior Ministry, had gone to a popular joint in the area with a woman identified as Ms Alice Wangechi, 37.
However, attendants at the joint noticed that the woman was trying to steal from the official, who had passed out after being given a spiked drink.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the woman had been identified as one of the individuals involved in the drink spiking enterprise that had been operating in the city but had now shifted to rural areas.
The DCI warned bar owners to be on high alert and to notify the police immediately if they notice any suspicious activity.
This incident comes just days after a man who had been running a group of women who had been spiking drinks across the city was shot dead in Nairobi.
