On July 18, 2019, British High Commissioner to Kenya Nic Hailey announced plans to bar Kenyans accused of corruption from traveling to Britain.
According to Hailey, the UK government intends to deny visas to individuals implicated in corruption, effectively preventing them from conducting business within its borders.
Hailey emphasized the need for decisive action against corruption, stating that people charged with corruption should resign from their positions in government to facilitate investigations.
He also acknowledged that building a corruption case requires time-consuming preparations to gather solid evidence, but expressed his country's commitment to helping Kenya battle the vice.
As part of this cooperation, the UK will work with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to build corruption cases through practical assistance in recovering stolen assets.
Hailey's comments come as the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) prepares to conduct bench-marking visits to Britain, facilitated by the UK's cooperation.
