On July 16, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i ordered the deportation of 17 owners of betting firms whose licenses were revoked by the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB).
The move has been welcomed by several leaders, including former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, who praised Matiang'i for his efforts to clean up the gaming industry in Kenya.
According to Khalwale, the move is a step in the right direction towards cleaning up the gaming industry in Kenya, which has been marred by corruption and unscrupulous business practices.
"Waziri Matiang'i deserves commendation for his efforts to deport owners of betting firms who have been operating illegally," Khalwale said in a statement.
"These owners have turned Kenya into a Las Vegas-style entertainment hub, which is not something we can be proud of," he added.
As reported earlier by TUKO.co.ke, Matiang'i ordered the deportation of the 17 owners of betting firms after their licenses were revoked by the BCLB.
