On July 7, 2019, a 14-year-old girl went missing from her father's house in Dagoretti, Nairobi, leaving behind a letter that revealed her feelings of being unappreciated for her school performance.
According to her father, the girl excused herself to go to the toilet and never returned, leaving behind a heartfelt letter that expressed her disappointment and frustration.
In the letter, the girl claimed that her father never appreciated her efforts in studies, making her feel hopeless about her education.
She wrote, 'I'm sorry dad for disappointing but I had to do so… But this is my decision. I have already made my mind up no turning back. Wherever I'll be do not search for me. I'll be fine wherever I'll be.'
She also stated, 'My Main reason for me to do this is because whenever I do my exams you have never appreciated, all the time you have just making me feel have lost hope in this life of education.'
Despite expressing her love and gratitude for her father's support, the girl decided to leave her family and pursue her own path, stating, '…For me I have decided education is not the key. Only my God can be able to know who I will be in future.'
The matter has since been reported at Mutuini Police Station, and the family is requesting anyone with information on her whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.
