On July 17, 2019, Moiben MP Silas Tiren publicly endorsed Baringo Senator Gideon Moi for the 2022 presidential bid, a move that has dealt a significant blow to the Jubilee camp.

Tiren, a 'lukewarm' Jubilee member, has been a fierce critic of Deputy President William Ruto and the Jubilee Government.

Speaking during a peace rally in Tiaty, the Moiben lawmaker accused Dr. Ruto of being on the negative side of leadership, citing several corruption allegations against him.

Tiaty MP William Kamket backed Tiren's statement, saying that Senator Moi is the only person who will succeed President Uhuru after his term expires.

However, Baringo North MP William Cheptumo (Jubilee) refuted claims that the Kalenjin community will support another leader from the region, saying that Dr. Ruto is in a better position to take over the presidency seat in 2022.

As a community, we will back him up, Kamket said during the rally.
