Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is set to become the world's highest-paid goalkeeper after agreeing to a new deal worth £97.5million.
Published on July 17, 2019, the deal will see De Gea earn £375,000-a-week, a significant compromise from his initial demand for parity with Alexis Sanchez's £500,000-a-week salary.
De Gea, 28, has been in talks with Manchester United for several months, with his future uncertain due to the final year of his contract.
However, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has expressed confidence that De Gea will commit his future to the club, saying, “David’s had a summer now where he’s been negotiating and thinking about his contract, so we hope that we’re going to get it sorted soon.”
De Gea joined Manchester United from Atletico Madrid in 2011 for £18.9m and has since emerged as arguably the best goalkeeper in the world.
