On July 17, 2019, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced a change in referees for the Africa Cup of Nations final.
South African referee Victor Gomes will take charge of the highly anticipated match between Algeria and Senegal, replacing Ethiopian Bamlak Tessema who had been initially assigned to officiate in the final game.
According to CAF, it wouldn't make sense for a referee to officiate in a semi-final followed by a final, as this would result in an excessive workload and potential fatigue.
