On July 17, 2019, the decomposing body of Dennis Ongeri, a 25-year-old Egerton University student, was discovered at the Njoro campus, two weeks after he went missing.

According to Nakuru county police commander Stephen Matu, the body was found inside Ongeri's rental house by a caretaker, with physical injuries on the face and a slit throat.

Matu stated that police are in the final stages of investigations and will enforce the outcome once complete.

Initial reports indicated that Ongeri was an introvert and a member of the university's Seventh-day Adventists (SDA) church, known for his good character.
