July 17, 2019, marked a day of intense debate within the Jubilee Party as Secretary-General Raphael Tuju faced criticism from Deputy President William Ruto and his allies.
Tuju, however, remained steadfast in his position, stating that he was working as directed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
According to Tuju, he received a phone call from the President asking him to represent him in Siaya to launch development projects.
He further clarified that he was facilitated by State House and that the only thing he did was read the speech from the President.
Tuju also denied working for Opposition leader Raila Odinga, saying that his actions were guided by the President's directives.
He challenged his accusers to follow party regulations and table any evidence they have against him, stating that there is a laid-down procedure of how to remove someone from office.
When asked about his relationship with Ruto, Tuju refused to engage in a public exchange, stating that he supports the President's efforts to unite the country through bold steps such as the Building Bridges Initiative, the handshake, and the fight against corruption.
