Uhuru, Raila, and Sonko Lead Fundraiser for Late Football Icon Joe Kadenge

On Tuesday, July 16, 2019, a fundraiser was held at Charter Hall in Nairobi to support the family of late football legend Joe Kadenge.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, Africa Union Special Envoy Raila Odinga, and Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko were among the top dignitaries who contributed KSh 1 million each to the fundraiser.

According to reports, Kadenge's family had billed the burial and funeral arrangement expenses at KSh 5 million.

Other notable contributors to the fundraiser included Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli and Amani party leader Musalia Mudavadi.

On Friday, July 19, 2019, AFC Leopards and Vihiga United will face off at Bukhungu Stadium in honour of Kadenge.

Earlier, there were reports that Nairobi's City Stadium could be renamed after the late footballer, a plan revealed by Raila Odinga.

Joe Kadenge passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2019, and will be laid to rest on Saturday, July 20, 2019, in Hamisi, Vihiga County.
