Published on July 16, 2019, Gor Mahia, the reigning Kenya Premier League champions, are preparing for their next assignment at the CECAFA Kagame Cup. The Turkish Cypriot coach Hassan Oktay has expressed his unfamiliarity with their opponents, Green Eagles from Zambia.
As quoted by Goal, Oktay stated, 'You know I don't know them, I have never watched them maybe they are watching us from the matches we played, but I don't know anything about them.' The only information he has about Green Eagles is that they qualified to play in the CAF Champions League next season, just like Gor Mahia.
Despite missing key players from their Kenya Premier League campaign last season, including Francis Kahata and Jacques Tuyisenge, Gor Mahia appears to have an upper hand in the competition. In the group stage, Green Eagles managed only two wins and a loss, while Gor Mahia won all their matches.
Gor Mahia is the last hope for the cup to return to Kenya after their counterparts Bandari FC were eliminated from the competition. The young team, led by coach Oktay, carries the hopes of Kenyans to see the trophy come back to the country.
