On May 10, 2022, a power outage at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi caused a two-hour halt in court proceedings.
The blackout, which occurred at 9:15am, left litigants and lawyers stranded in the corridors, while prison officers used phone spotlights to enhance security for the accused in remand.
Some anticorruption courts, which were naturally well-lit, continued conducting proceedings despite the power outage.
It was reported that the blackout was caused by a faulty transformer.
Interestingly, Kenya Power and Lighting Company's former employees were also facing charges at the Anti-Corruption Court for supplying faulty transformers and engaging in irregular procurement procedures.
