Published on July 16, 2019, Nairobi lawyer Donald Kipkorir has found himself at the center of a social media storm following his remarks on Jamaican singer Alaine and Morgan Heritage.
According to Kipkorir, during his one-week tour of Jamaica, he asked drivers and waiters if they knew the two artists, but none of them were familiar with them.
He claimed that this experience highlighted the difference between Jamaica and Kenya, where unknown individuals can become stars.
However, Kipkorir's words did not sit well with a section of Kenyans on Twitter, who took to the platform to lecture him on the error of his remarks.
"I was in Jamaica for one week & travelled across the country. I asked the drivers I used & waiters in the restaurants I visited if they knew Alaine or Morgan Heritage.. None of the Jamaicans I asked knew them... They are unknowns in Jamaica.. Kenya makes “stars” of non-stars," Kipkorir wrote in a tweet.
Kenyan Twitter users responded with a mix of shock and outrage, with some calling out Kipkorir for his derogatory remarks.
