Published on July 16, 2019, Nairobi — The Jubilee Party is facing yet another crisis after Deputy President William Ruto accused Secretary-General Raphael Tuju of becoming the chief strategist for the opposition.

According to Ruto, Kenya's democracy is so liberal that Tuju, who is also a Cabinet Secretary without a portfolio, can now work with the opposition despite being in the ruling party.

"So, our democracy is so liberal that the SG of the ruling party has become the chief strategist of the opposition!! Maajabu," Ruto tweeted, directed at Tuju.

Tuju has been at the center of controversy for allegedly leading a faction of the party to oppose Ruto, who has expressed interest in the presidency in 2022.

Politicians allied to Ruto have called for a General meeting to topple Tuju from his position, while President Uhuru Kenyatta has maintained a neutral stance, urging leaders to focus on serving Kenyans rather than engaging in petty politics.

The party's instability has been a concern ahead of the 2022 elections, with factions forming and some leaders pledging allegiance to either President Kenyatta or Ruto.
