On June 28, 2019, Inspector General of Police Hillary Nzioka Mutyambai addressed the press at Harambee House Annex in Nairobi, alongside Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i.

Just days later, police arrested 20 suspected illegal immigrants in Moyale, Isiolo, and Marsabit in operations. The arrests were the latest in a series of incidents.

Of the 20 suspects, nine were Ethiopian nationals arrested on Saturday night in Moyale. Seven others from Congo were nabbed in Isiolo after a Moyale-bound bus they were traveling in from Nairobi was intercepted.

Among the Congolese suspects, five were underage and were found to be from a Ugandan refugee camp, according to police. In Marsabit North, four Eritrean nationals aged between 20 and 25 were arrested at Turbi Trading Centre.

The suspects claimed they were searching for better opportunities in the region and beyond. Police stated that the suspects would be arraigned and returned to their countries.

Separately, police are holding three suspects, including two Nigerian nationals and a Kenyan, over suspected involvement in mobile money fraud. The three were arrested in Juja, Kiambu County, following a tip-off from the public.

A raid on the suspects' house in Witeithie area led to the recovery of over 70 assorted SIM cards, 10 mobile phones, subscriber SIM registration forms, several Kenyan Identification Cards, and some Kenyan currency.
