Higher Education Loans Board (Helb) has extended a full waiver on penalties for student loan repayment, providing relief to up to 75,000 students. The waiver, dubbed 'KamilishaMalipoyaHelb', was initially set to run until April 30, 2022, but was extended by two months to June 30, 2022, on May 4.

According to HELB CEO Charles Ringera, the extension was made in response to numerous requests from loanees. 'You spoke and we heard you, so we have now extended the Covid-19 Penalty Waiver by 60 days until 30th June 2022!' reads a tweet from the HELB Twitter account.

Mr. Ringera acknowledged the challenges facing loanees due to the pandemic and economic slowdown, which have affected loan repayment. He encouraged loanees to take advantage of the waiver and reminded them of their repayment obligations to enable the funding of 75,000 students at risk of not being funded this year.
