On July 16, 2019, a close call was narrowly avoided when a cargo train brushed past a matatu in Embakasi, leaving the vehicle severely damaged but its occupants unharmed.

The incident occurred at around 11am at the Avenue Park Estate junction, where a similar accident had happened just months prior.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the latest incident, but the matatu was left severely damaged.

Just months before, in February 2019, a commuter train had rammed into a Citi Hoppa bus at the same spot, but fortunately, no one was injured.

Another train accident had occurred in 2018, when a train hit an oil tanker near Pipeline Estate in Nairobi, leaving one person injured and causing a major traffic snarl up on Outer Ring Road.
