The English Premier League is set to kick off its new season on August 9, with Liverpool facing off against Norwich in the opening match.
According to the Premier League, the new season will see the introduction of a new rule that will guide the league. The rule states that if two or more teams finish level on points, goal difference, and number of goals scored, their head-to-head records will be used to separate them.
For instance, if two teams are tied on points, goal difference, and number of goals scored, the team that has collected the most points in their head-to-head clashes will take the higher finishing position.
However, if the teams are still tied after considering their head-to-head records, a playoff will be arranged at a neutral ground, with the format, timing, and venue to be determined by the Premier League Board.
According to the Premier League, the new rule replaces the previous system where teams involved in these specific battles would be pitted against each other in a playoff.
