On April 25, 2022, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) announced that the national government's bypass roads infrastructure in Meru and Maua towns is 100% complete and ready for official opening in fulfillment of President Uhuru Kenyatta's Big Four agenda.
According to KURA, the infrastructure is part of the President's agenda to fast-track the completion of other several roads undergoing construction and maintenance in other parts of the country.
Speaking during a tour of Meru County to inspect progress of projects, KURA Director General, Engineer Silas Kinoti, lauded his teams on the ground for their commitment to finish the work within the stipulated time.
'We are working very hard to help the President achieve success in infrastructural development, an area he is committed towards ahead of his exit from office,' noted the soft-spoken DG.
He also hailed the partnership between his office and Meru county government, saying the cooperation is meant to increase efficiency in the delivery of services to the people.
According to the Constitution, the roads function is a shared responsibility between the national government and county governments.
Engineer Kinoti further added that the mega roads projects will lead to more investors coming to pump their resources in Meru, create more jobs, and enable farmers to easily reach markets with their produce.
The construction of the Sh1.5 billion, 15km Maua-Athiru Gaiti-Kilili-Meru national park road is also complete, aimed at accelerating economic growth and reducing traffic jams in Meru town.
