Riyad Mahrez: Algeria Can Win AFCON Title ¶
Algeria's star player Riyad Mahrez is confident that his team can win the 2019 AFCON title, despite facing a tough opponent in Senegal.
Speaking after Algeria's 2-1 win over Nigeria in the semi-finals, Mahrez said: "We were already confident, but this match has given us even more belief. It will be a difficult match, but I think we have the ability to win it. We played Senegal in the group stages, they are a very good team, but we will see."
Algeria has been on a roll in the tournament, defeating Kenya 2-0, Senegal 1-0, and Tanzania 3-0 in the group stages. They then defeated Guinea 3-0 in the round of 16 and Ivory Coast 4-3 in the quarter-finals on penalties.
With their semi-final win over Nigeria, Algeria is now one step away from winning the AFCON title for the second time, after their first win in 1990.
