On May 17, 2019, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha announced that his ministry would hold consultative meetings with stakeholders to discuss the challenges arising from the implementation of the new CBC curriculum.
However, on Monday, it emerged that Prof. Magoha had failed to honor his promise.
Teachers' unions, Knut and Kuppet, have criticized the ministry for excluding them from the planning process for the implementation of the CBC at the Grade 6 and 'Junior Secondary' levels.
The unions claimed that the ministry had not organized any meeting to discuss the crucial issue.
Prof. Magoha's failure to engage stakeholders is in contravention of the Constitution's Article 118, which requires any government agency to involve stakeholders and the public in the implementation of any project or program.
Therefore, to address the challenges facing the implementation of the CBC, it is essential that Prof. Magoha engages with stakeholders.
