On April 25, 2022, the Jubilee party requested musician Kevin Bahati to shelve his bid for the Mathare parliamentary seat in favor of incumbent ODM MP Anthony Oluoch.
However, Bahati's wife, social media influencer Diana Marua, has come to his defense, urging him to remain focused on the positives ahead.
"There is a silver lining to every black cloud. It'll be difficult, but we'll get through it. @BahatiKenya, remain focused on the glory that awaits you and the Mathare people," Marua wrote on social media.
Bahati had been given a Jubilee ticket but was asked to step down in favor of ODM's Anthony Oluoch. In a viral video, he pleaded with President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga to allow him to run in the election.
"I am pleading with my President Uhuru Kenyatta and Baba Raila Odinga to allow the youth a chance to run for office," he said.
