President Mwai Kibaki's funeral service at the Nyayo National Stadium on Friday is expected to be a grand ceremony, with mourners required to be seated by 8am.

The Interior Ministry, under Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, has been working tirelessly to ensure the event runs smoothly. Matiang'i, who chairs the National Funeral Steering Committee, briefed the media after the Committee visited the Stadium to assess the preparations.

As part of the preparations, the late President Kibaki's body will be taken to State House in Nairobi before departing for the stadium. The body has been lying in state at Parliament Buildings since Monday, giving Kenyans a chance to pay their last respects.

President Uhuru Kenyatta declared a period of national mourning from April 22nd, 2022, until sunset on the day of the interment, April 29th, 2022. The State Funeral and Memorial Service will be televised live on national television and radio stations.
