Former Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe has announced his bid to reclaim Nairobi's lost glory, a promise he says he will fulfill by following in the footsteps of former President Mwai Kibaki.
Speaking after viewing Kibaki's body lying in state at Parliament, Igathe revealed that Kibaki was his mentor and that he had studied his life from a young age.
"I thank God for his sense of humor, the day Kibaki left, I came and I will continue to walk in his shoes," Igathe said, echoing his commitment to Kibaki's legacy.
April 22, 2022, marked a significant day for Igathe, as it was the day he was formally unveiled as the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition candidate in the Nairobi gubernatorial race, coinciding with Kibaki's passing.
Igathe's decision to study economics was heavily influenced by Kibaki, who he credits with being a true gentleman and a practitioner of clean politics.
"I remember him for being a politician and a leader who enlightened, who believed in light and not heat. Many of people in politics today like to generate heat but Kibaki generated light," Igathe said, highlighting Kibaki's unique approach to politics.
As Igathe seeks to unseat Governor Ann Kananu, he has challenged city residents to elect a leader who will work for them and deliver, urging them to rise up to the challenge of reclaiming Nairobi's lost glory.
