Published on July 15, 2019, two individuals, Irene Wanjiku Njeri and Fredrick Kinani, were arraigned in a Nairobi court for allegedly using the name of former first lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta to con unsuspecting individuals.

The two were charged with obtaining money through false pretense and conspiracy to defraud before Milimani Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot.

According to the charges, the two allegedly conspired to defraud Mary Wanjiku of Sh250,000 by falsely pretending they were in a position to help her children join the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) and secure jobs in Germany through Mrs. Kenyatta.

During the arraignment, Njeri pleaded for lenient bond terms, citing her status as a single mother with sick children, while Kinani claimed to be the sole breadwinner for seven children and requested leniency.

The two denied the charges and were released on Sh100,000 cash bail each. The matter will be mentioned on August 13th, 2019.
