On April 25, 2022, Jubilee Party Mathare MP aspirant Kevin Kioko, popularly known as Bahati, broke down in tears during a press conference.
Bahati, who had secured a Jubilee party ticket, was seeking to unseat Anthony Tom Oluoch of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in the Mathare constituency.
However, he claimed that he was asked to step down after being awarded a nomination certificate, citing that the constituency had been zoned for ODM under the Azimio la Umoja Coalition Party.
"I know there's zoning and Mathare has been zoned as an ODM area but for this one time, give the youth of this country a chance. Give the people of Mathare a chance to get the leader they have always wanted," Bahati emotionally appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga to intervene and allow him to run for the seat.
He further stated, "I am also in Azimio and this certificate here is not only Bahati but it represents many other youths, this is a sign of hope. I respect my president and Raila Odinga but please give the youth of this country chance,"
