On April 23, 2022, Murang'a Woman Representative Sabina Chege announced that she would not contest for any position in the August 9 polls.
Speaking in Murang'a County, Chege revealed that she would concentrate on the Azimio la Umoja one Kenya alliance council, the highest-ranking organ in the coalition.
She noted that the huge mandate would not be easy, but affirmed that she is up to the task to sell the Azimio la Umoja agenda to Kenyans.
Before declaring her stance, there were speculations that Sabina Chege was going to vie for the Murang'a Gubernatorial seat or contest for the Kigumo parliamentary slot.
She had initially made the announcement on her social media handles, revealing that her decision was also spiritually influenced.
"Finally the Holy Spirit has spoken, I will not be vying in any elective position in Murang'a County. I will concentrate with National politics in Azimio la Umoja Council," she tweeted.
With Sabina out of the equation, Murang's gubernatorial race now has several candidates, including former Water PS Wairagu wa Maai, senator Irungu Kang'ata, pharmacist Moses Mwangi, former Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau, former Devolution PS Irungu Nyakera, and businessman Michael Gatogo.
She urged Kenyans to think critically when electing their next leaders in the General Election, arguing that the outcome of the coming poll would affect generations to come.
"I would urge Kenyans as we vote, let's not think about the next elections but the next generation and let's open our eyes," she stated.
